Writing Excuses Retreats
Since 2013, Writing Excuses has offered retreats and workshops designed to help writers connect, grow, and dig deeper into their craft.
We recognize writing is not as solitary an act as many think. Writing Excuses Retreats aim to create safe and inviting spaces for generating ideas and honing skills. Beyond dedicated time at the keyboard, there are opportunities for instruction and connection, critique and brainstorming.
We’ve grown immensely since our inaugural retreat, where a few dozen writers gathered in a single living room. With over 1,000 alumni from across the globe, the retreats have become an inextricable part of the Writing Excuses experience. This year, we’re excited to announce our first year with three retreat options, two on land and one at sea aboard a cruise ship.
We‘re excited about the expanding role the retreats are playing in the lives of our listeners and hope to see you at one of our upcoming events.

We have two different scholarship types available for Writing Excuses retreats—one for a writer in financial need, and one to a writer of color.
We fund these scholarships through one of our Patreon tiers, donations directly to us, and an alumni fund, generously set up by Heather & Bill Tracy. If you’d like to donate please click here to do so. Each donation makes it possible for us to offer more scholarships and both us and the recipients appreciate it!
